Acalypha ciliata is an erect, annual, herbaceous plant. It has single leaves with large petiolate. It is grown with tap root and the leaves are appeared as grayish green, green or pink-outlined and nerved grayish-green colour with base-rounded, margin fringed with hairs, ovulate or wedge shape and crenate-serrate margin.

            A trace of alkaloids have been detected in the leaves.

1. Leave decoction is drunk as a remedy for female sterility.
2. Root infusion is taken to treat schistosomiasis.
3. The plant might have emetic and expectorant properties and hence it could be substitute for Acalypha indica.
4. The dry leaf powder is also used for maggot-infected wounds.
5. The plant is employed as the Siddha medicine.
6. The plant is also eaten as a green vegetable.
